Warner Bros. Discovery’s head of streaming and games, J.B. Perrette, has confirmed that HBO’s House of the Dragon Season 2 will premiere in June 2024.
The new release date, which was disclosed in an interview at the Technology, Media, and Telecom conference hosted by Morgan Stanley, considerably reduces the window of time for the show’s previously stated “early summer” launch.
House of the Dragon, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” novel “Fire & Blood,” centers on the Targaryen dynasty on the made-up continent of Westeros. It occurs roughly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and a century or so after the Targaryens brought the Seven Kingdoms together.
Filming for “House of the Dragon” Season 2 commenced on April 11, 2023, at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios. Because screenplays were finished before filming started, the Writers Guild of America strike (which started on May 2 and lasted until September 27) and the SAG-AFTRA strike (which started on July 14) had no impact on the filming process.
